Function
1. Cast-iron skillets offer heavy-duty performance, lower side walls, and wider cooking surfaces—ideal for stovetops and ovens.
2. Seasoned cookware. Proper seasoning makes a noticeable difference, and the more you use the skillet, the better the seasoned layer becomes.
3. Excellent temperature control with uniform heat distribution and consistent warmth.
4. Cast-iron pre-seasoned coating should be applied immediately after washing. Suitable for all cooking surfaces, grills, and campfires.
The key is fat + heat. After cooking, rub a small amount of oil into a warm pan to help fill microscopic pores. With time, this forms a smooth patina. For quick results, preheat the skillet, add fat (butter or lard), and wait until it shimmers before adding food. Avoid acidic foods (such as tomatoes) in the early stages, as they can weaken new seasoning. With regular use, your skillet can deliver non-stick performance comparable to Teflon’s—without the use of chemical treatments.
Cast iron helps reduce concerns about PTFE or PFOA while supporting a higher iron content in food (particularly beneficial for people with anemia). Its ability to sear with less added oil can help reduce overall calorie intake, and the even heating helps prevent burning. For “detox” style cooking, avoid overheating cooking oils; choose options such as avocado or ghee. The skillet’s natural non-stick surface eliminates the need for chemical sprays, helping you keep meals clean and flavorful.
After cooking, scrape off residue using a bamboo brush under warm water. For greasy areas, sprinkle baking soda, scrub gently, and rinse. Always hand-dry thoroughly and apply a thin layer of oil to protect the surface from moisture. If rust spots appear, scrub with vinegar, re-season, and continue cooking. Note: seasoning improves with regular use—minor imperfections will correct over time. Store in a dry place with a paper towel inside to help absorb humidity.
